According to the ACPE, is a pharmacy considered to be a commercial interest?

The definition of a “commercial interest” is any entity producing, marketing, reselling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients.  Providers of clinical service directly to patients are not ‘commercial interests’.  Based on that last sentence, pharmacies are not considered to be commercial interests.

One of the ACPE’s guiding principles in this category is: “If a company provides pharmacist-provided patient care services (i.e., pharmacies), then the company should not be deemed a commercial interest.”  Read more about the ACPE’s guiding principles on the commercial interest definition here: https://www.acpe-accredit.org/pdf/FAQSCSAugust2014022317.pdf.
