We partnered with an organization on an accredited CE activity, but just learned it is a subsidiary of an ineligible parent company. How can we move forward with the partnership?

Per the ACCME, “subsidiaries of an ineligible parent company cannot be accredited regardless of steps taken to firewall the subsidiaries.”  As such, your partner organization is considered an ineligible company.  To move forward, you’ll need to determine if you want to retain the partner as a commercial supporter or collaborator in one of the following ways:

  • Option #1:  If your organization independently identified the needs and gaps for the activity and is conducting the initial planning, you could develop an accredited CE grant request and submit it to the organization in compliance with Standard 4.  This means the ineligible company can no longer collaborate or be involved in planning decisions.
  • Option #2:  The ineligible company can serve as a collaborator and be involved in planning decisions, but the activity can no longer be accredited.
