AHA Produces Ebola Education Package

The American Hospital Association (AHA) has given CME providers an Ebola education package in response to the recent public health issue.

The package contains an informational PowerPoint presentation on Ebola, along with a document of frequently asked questions titled “Safe Management of Patients with Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in U.S. Hospitals.”

The PowerPoint presentation can be viewed here.

The FAQ document can be accessed here.

The ACCME encourages all CME providers within the ACCME accreditation system to spread the facts of Ebola, suggesting the information be incorporated into currently scheduled CME activities, added to presentations, distributed as fact sheets, published on websites, emailed to learners, etc.

In a press conference on Oct. 13, 2014, Tom Frieden, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention addressed concerns and plans for battling the Ebola virus.

“We will double down on training, outreach, education and assistance throughout the health care system, through professional associations, through hospitals, through group organizations and individuals reaching out to health departments at the state and county levels in cities and elsewhere so that we can increase the awareness of Ebola and increase the ability to respond rapidly,” Frieden said. “The enemy here is a virus, Ebola.  It’s not a person, it’s not a country, it’s not a place, it’s not a hospital, it’s a virus.  It’s a virus that’s tough to fight.  But together I’m confident that we will stop it.”
