For Commendation Criteria C27, what does it mean to step outside the realm of clinical medicine to address populations?

The key to Criterion C27 is to address “factors beyond clinical care”.  To comply with this criterion, providers must go beyond clinical care to address the public health environment and the health of populations.  Examples of this would be initiatives that address economic, social and environmental conditions, healthcare systems, or disparity in access to care.  Providers should actively seek to address barriers to optimum health for their chosen population.
