What components are required in an LOA?

According to the ACCME, when there is commercial support of any kind, there must be a written agreement that fulfills the following five requirements:

  1. The LOA must itemize how the provider plans to use the commercial support in the development and presentation of the CME activity.
  2. It must itemize the organizations involved in the activity (i.e., joint providers, education partners, manager).
  3. The LOA should specify the organizational name of the commercial interest(s) that supplied the funds.
  4. It needs to specify what funds or in-kind services will be given by the commercial supporter to support the provider’s activity.
  5. The LOA needs to be signed by the commercial interest and the accredited provider prior to the activity taking place.
