Does the ACCME prohibit the use of trade names (for medications, devices, etc.) in accredited CE materials?

No, but make sure you adhere to these guidelines to guard against potential bias or promotion in your content.

  1. Use generic names whenever possible.
  2. Use a trade name or a few trade names alongside the generic name if doing so provides helpful context to your learners.  For example, you could mention: “Generic Medication (Trade Name 1, Trade Name 2, Trade Name 3).”
  3. Use the trade name and generic name combination ONCE, then use the generic name only.
