AOE Services for Education Providers
Case Study #1: Moving from Non-Compliance to Best Practices
Profile: An ACCME-accredited society cited for non-compliance with multiple of the 2006 Accreditation Criteria sought to make required program changes.
Goal: AOE’s goal was to collaborate and guide the provider in bringing its CME program back into compliance with the ACCME’s Accreditation Criteria through policy and procedure updates, training on implementation, and guidance regarding CME staff structure. Our work began by mapping the provider’s existing processes and identifying where CME program gaps exited. AOE then partnered with staff to develop CME policies and procedures specific to the provider’s compliance needs and organizational structure, and ensure knowledge of implementation.
Results: Approval of Part I and Part II of the ACCME’s required Progress Report and re-instatement of the organization’s ACCME Accredited status for another four-year term.
Testimonial: AOE has in-depth knowledge of the CME accreditation process and was very thorough in assessing gaps within our CME program. The AOE Engagement Team who worked with us never lost sight of our organization’s educational goals. Not only did they help us update policies and procedures, they ensured our ability to implement the policies and procedures developed. – National CME Provider
Case Study #2: Reaccreditation Consulting & Self Study Support
Profile: An ACCME-accredited medical education company up for reaccreditation sought assistance with the reaccreditation process under the Updated Accreditation Criteria, including self study development, performance-in-practice documentation, and preparation for the ACCME interview.
Goal: Working nine-months out from the provider’s self-study deadline, the initial step for AOE was to complete a reaccreditation timeline and delineate roles and responsibilities for self study development. AOE conducted staff compliance trainings specifically focused on the 2006 Updated Accreditation Criteria, and completed a thorough CME program audit, including activity file reviews and recommendations for performance-in-practice documentation. AOE also conducted final compliance and editorial reviews for all materials being submitted to the ACCME and prepared staff to successfully complete the ACCME interview.
Results: The provider was awarded accreditation status for another 4-year term, achieving compliance with all Accreditation criteria and five of seven Commendation criteria. Through the reaccreditation process, AOE was able to identify areas where processes could be implemented to bring the provider into full compliance with all Accreditation with Commendation criteria for the next reaccreditation process.
Testimonial: AOE brought efficiency, understanding, and significant expertise to our reaccreditation process. We did not set out to achieve Accreditation with Commendation, but were able to document compliance with most of those criteria. We look forward to continued collaboration with AOE to position ourselves for this accreditation level in the future. – National CME Provider
